Education

Nikola performed amazingly in school, first at the age of five in Similjan, Lika, then at age six he and his family moved to Gospic where he went to public school for four years then going to a Gymnasium at Carlstadt in Austria.

He graduated the Gymnasium at seventeen in 1873 at the time cholera epidemic was sweeping the country when he came back to his family he caught the disease. This was a life point on him, but his dad promised him that if he survives that he would be allowed to attend the renowned Austrian Polytechnic School at Graz, to study engineering.

After the disease his father sent him to the wild and there Tesla began to study nature, and while being in nature e came up with a numerous number of inventions and discoveries, including a great elevated ring around the Equator and once knocked it would leave a ring free mark that would rotate at the earth’s speed. But all those dreams faded and the love of electricity came to the top.

Finally he went to the Polytechnic School where he began his studies of electrical engineering. His Professor, named Poeschl, showed him a new Gramme Machine that could be used both as a motor and a generator. Early Electric motors operated on direct current, requiring a sparking device called a commentator to reverse the direction of the current. After this Nikola spent several years thinking of this but while he was in living in Prague his father died.

To earn a living he got a job, thanks to an uncle, as a draftsman with the Central Telephone Exchange of the Hungarian government, he quickly mastered the telephone a new piece of technology. During this he got a nerves breakdown and later said to be “hopeless physical wreak”.

In Budapest people were interested in the possibilities of AC current. That’s why in Italy Professor Ferraris had studied alternating currents and their ability to produce rotation, but none of the scientists got to make a functional motor.

One day while Tesla was walking with a friend in the park the answer that Professor Poeschl had questioned Tesla, at last, after all the years, had come to him. He had figured out AC current. In an AC circuit electrons are made to move in one direction then in the reverse.
